Seedlings: Grow lights can be used to assist with the propagation of indoor plants from seedlings since seedlings need enough light and warm temperature to grow healthy.

Propagation: If you love propagating plants to give as gifts or as a side hustle, you must have grow lights to properly propagate your indoor plants.

Growing Food: Of course, if you have an indoor garden of greens and herbs, you definitely need grow lights for them to grow correctly.

Limited Light: Grow light can help indoor plants to grow healthy and strong, especially during the colder months. Grow lights can also be used as artificial lighting for rooms with limited light or no sunlight.

APPLICATIONS OF HORTICULTURE LIGHTIN
There are various kinds of setups of horticultural lighting applications. The main ones are addressed below:

Top lighting :-

The plants are illuminated from above similar to sunlight. The aim is to supplement natural daylight and raise growth light levels in order to enhance photosynthesis and thereby improve the growth and quality of plants in greenhouses.

Inter lighting :-

Using LEDs as a light source is a perfect solution to enable inter lighting. In this case the light sources are placed in between the plants and the leaves. This reduces the shade of the leaves which may result from top lighting and thus increase the amount of light even on the lower leaves.

Vertical farming or multilayer cultivation :-

In vertical farms, plant factories or multi-layer cultivation applications the crop is grown in layer one on top of each other. The light isplaced directly above and in close proximity of the crop. This only allows “cold” light sources such as LED luminaires to ensure that the plants are not burned by the high temperature of the light source. Uniform illumination is necessary in order to achieve the even growth of the crop over the complete plan area.

Space farming, whether on the International Space Station or in tests for future Moon- or Mars-based agriculture, is an area where NASA leads the way in technology development.

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida partnered with a small business to advance technologies for growing food crops in space. One result of the research was a LED light system, components of which have been incorporated into a variety of agricultural greenhouse and consumer aquarium lighting features. The lighting systems can be adapted to a specific plant during any growth stage, allowing maximum efficiency in light absorption by all available photosynthetic tissues.
